A five-star running back declares his decommitment.

The No. 2 running back in the 2023 class, Rueben Owens, has withdrawn his commitment from Louisville. He only recently made this decision public on social media.

"I want to express my gratitude to the Louisville community and its supporters for their support during this process. Due to all the relationships that have been formed,

this is bittersweet for me "Tweets from Owens "I've made the decision to back out of my commitment to the University of Louisville after consulting with my parents and

considering all my options. I'll keep praying and being thankful along this trip."

The timing of Owens' choice is particularly intriguing. Earlier on Wednesday, Louisville and Jeff Brohm reached an agreement to appoint him the team's new head coach.

Owens, a five-star prospect, finished his junior high school football season with 2,989 rushing yards and 46 touchdowns.

Among the teams that extended offers to Owens during his initial recruitment phase were Alabama, Arkansas, TCU, and Texas.

We anticipate Owens will be in demand from a number of programs.
