Raiders Sign Jimmy Garoppolo: A New Era in Las Vegas?

The Raiders had a disappointing end to the 2022 season, finishing 6-11.

Derek Carr was informed that he was being replaced as the starting quarterback after Week 16.

This left the Raiders searching for a starting quarterback for the 2023 season.

The Raiders signed Jimmy Garoppolo, reuniting him with head coach Josh McDaniels.

Garoppolo was traded to the 49ers in 2017 and led the team to the Super Bowl in 2019 and the NFC Championship Game in 2021.

However, injuries have prevented Garoppolo from staying on the field consistently.

Garoppolo was released by the 49ers this offseason after the emergence of Brock Purdy.

Derek Carr was released by the Raiders this off-season and later signed with the New Orleans Saints.

Garoppolo was attracted to the Raiders because of McDaniels and his familiarity with his offensive system.

Garoppolo said that McDaniels taught him how to be successful in the NFL.

Garoppolo and McDaniels both compared going away from McDaniels' offense to Kyle Shanahan's version as like learning a new language.
